Предраковые заболевания толстой кишки играют ключевую роль в онкогенезе кишечника. В эпидемиологических исследованиях выявлена высокая распространенность полипов среди населения старше 50 лет, достигающая 50%. Связь между наличием полипов и развитием колоректального рака подтверждается тем, что около 80% случаев обусловлено именно полипами толстой кишки.
