Abstract:
Proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) is a minimally invasive method of varus deformity correction and treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis. Despite the frequent practice of this intervention and low complication rate, cases of compression neuropathy of fibular nerve caused by displacement of the proximate bone fragments have not been previously described in literature. The article presents a clinical observation which complements the information on possible neurological complications after PFO, demonstrates the possibility of deep fibular nerve compression by a displaced proximal bone fragment after PFO and stresses the necessity of post-operative monitoring of the patients’ neurological status for timely detection and treatment of complications.
