It is to the wars that trauma surgery in general and military field surgery in particular owe their rapid development during the last three centuries. The military field surgery was separated in a special discipline because it was necessary to elaborate principles of simultaneous rendering surgical help to a considerable number of the wounded and injured who suffered traumas of various severity in the course of military hostilities or by other reasons during the armed conflicts
